Maryland has been called "Free State", "America in Miniature" and "Old Line State" The Chesapeake Bay is the largest body of water in Maryland. There are many rivers, streams, lakes and ponds as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Summer is the peak tourist season in Maryland Peak season for the Eastern Shore is April thru October for boating and fishing. Western Maryland visitor attractions are year round with beautiful snow in the winter and cooler summers than the rest of the state.
